Cate Longo

Cate Longo wore a bright green tube top and matching bright green flair jeans on Saint Patrick’s Day of 2021. Her wavy short brown hair was braided and interwoven with sparkly green string, and a tiny green eyeliner four-leaf clover was drawn on the outer corner of her eyes.

At the time, the 19-year-old freshman at UA walked into a party at a house she had never been to before.

As soon as she walked in, the door to her right was open into a bedroom and there sat a tall man with brown hair doing work at his desk, not wearing a single article of clothing in green.

His name was Adam Bishop, he was a 21-year-old senior, and he briefly introduced himself to Longo and her two friends before he closed the door and continued with homework.

“Now here is where things get a little dicey because I get way too drunk,” said Longo. For a while, Longo was just with her friends but at some point, Bishop emerged from his room, and joined the party.

It was a chaotic whirlwind of a party, with one friend throwing up, and another having a meltdown. There was a moment when time stopped, Longo’s head cleared, and she had her first conversation with Bishop.

“For some reason, we start talking about yoga, and I’m probably trying to flirt so I end up doing downward dog, and then he does downward dog next to me and we both fall to the floor in a state of uncontrollable laughter,” said Longo.

The next thing Longo knew was that she ended up sitting on the roof overlooking the Sam Hughes neighborhood with him. She was wearing his oversized UA gray hoodie. They just talked for a long time on the roof, and eventually, their cold hands interlocked, slipping underneath the fabrics of their two sweaters.

As they made their way back down the stairs, hand in hand, the party had ended and Longo’s friends were sprawled sleeping on the couches. Just as Longo was about to join them on the couch, “There is more room in the bed if you want,” said Bishop.

After spending the night together, Longo didn’t hear from him for the whole weekend. “I didn’t have his phone number, his Instagram, his Snapchat, or anything, I didn’t know if I would hear from him again,” said Longo.

It was Monday morning, and Longo got a text saying, “Hey it’s Adam I’m sorry I didn’t reach out. I've been sick all weekend and I just got tested and it was Chlamydia,” said Bishop's text.

“So, it turned out I gave him Chlamydia that night, but he was so nice about it and actually really sweet and after that, we ended up hanging out and eventually dating,” said Longo.

Longo and Bishop are currently still dating, and March 18th, 2023 will be their two-year anniversary. Longo credits Bishop with making her feel like a much more grounded and stable human being. She envisions a future with him, continuing to do things they love together, like hiking, going to museums, and cooking.

“I never thought giving someone an STD would lead to love, but here we are, and I couldn’t be happier about it,” said Longo.
